C900 Keyless Locks
Introduction

If you are jealous of all of those new car folk with their fancy keyless entry systems, then you have come to the right place!

NOTE: This procedure is for a car that is not equipped with a factory SAAB car alarm. I have no idea if the procedure would be similar or not as I don't have the system!
Most likely it will work, but I'm not sure how the central locking is integrated with the alarm system.

Also, your wire colors may be different than mine. Be sure to follow your Bentley manual to make sure you are hooking up to the right wires!

There are two things that you need to buy:

  • A new or used door lock actuator for the driver's door.
The easiest place to buy this is on Ebay. I paid $15 for mine. Any C900 door actuator will work, except the drivers side.
  • A new crimestopper keyless entry computer. I bought model #CS865RKE2. Again, Ebay is the best place to buy this. I paid $36 for mine.

The basic crimestopper keyless entry system has additional options for starter disable, open drivers door only, turning on interior lights, popping the trunk, lighting the parking lights, honking the horn, etc...
I will not go into wiring these other functions up as I did not want the additional options. Your on your own for those!

Now that you have the parts, it's time to install it.

Now that you have the parts, it's time to install it.

    Step 1 - Disassembly

Remove the door panel and remove the old sensor unit.

The door panel is removed by unscrewing everything that holds it on!

Take note how the door lock mechanism is connected to the actuator. Then disconnect the wiring and the rod and remove the sensor.

The old lock sensor looks identical to the new actuator. The main difference is that it only sends a signal to the central locking relay pack, it can't receive any signals.
Swap over the bracket and bag onto the new actuator and bolt it up in the same manner as the old one.

Don't worry about the wires yet, we will get to that next!

Remove the knee bolster to get access to the central locking relay pack. It's located next to the heater core opposite side of the pedals.

Click here if you need instructions on removing the knee bolster.

Remove and unplug the relay pack by removing the top clip and the metal bracket holding it down.

Now it's time to wire it all up!

Step 2 - Wiring it up

First wire up the drivers door actuator. Since you only need 2 of the 3 wires, it is your choice how to connect the actuator to the wires.

I just removed the plug on the actuator and plugged the wires into the 3 prong plug and taped it up. Be sure to match up the color of the wires!

Now wire up the CrimeStopper. SAAB uses a ground trigger system with the relay pack, but I chose to eliminate the relay pack and only use the CrimeStopper computer.

The CrimeStopper needs a constant 12 volt power and a switched 12 volt power source. The constant 12V is provided in the relay pack harness and the switched power can by gotten by the cigarette lighter not too far away. The ground is also supplied in the relay pack harness.

There are 6 wires that can control the lock actuators. It's best to think of the wiring as two circuits. An unlocking circuit and a locking circuit. Since I just wanted the most basic system of having all locks work at the same time, you basically just combine all locking wires together and then all unlocking wires together.

Since there are separate wires for the drivers doors, it can be wired to lock/unlock separately. An extra relay needs to be bought and the install is somewhat detailed in the CrimeStopper directions.

The stock wiring does not allow a separate trunk circuit. You would have to run new wires to the trunk actuator to get this option.

The CrimeStopper came with the correct default settings for running the actuators. The main setting is to have 0.8 seconds of duration to activate the locks. The other option of 3.0 seconds is too long and may burn out the actuator.

    That's pretty much it!

After making sure everything works as expected, just reinstall the knee bolster and the door panel and you are good to go!
