C900 Upgraded Brakes

The stock 9000 brakes that come on 1988+ saabs C900's are sufficient for most applications. But for those that have pushed the brakes know that something is needed to control pedal fade. When the C900 is fully loaded with power everything, it is a heavy car. If you were to remove everything out of the car you would probably be fine with the stock brakes. For those that need a little more something, but don't feel like shelling out $1000-$2000 for a bigger brake packages, you can choose to upgrade to the later style 9000 brakes.

The calipers are slightly bigger/heavier than the stock brakes, but that's the only negative. The single piston is 3mm bigger (54mm to 57mm), the rotor is 2mm thicker (23mm to 25mm), and the the pads are about 25% bigger than the stock pads.

When you are ready to upgrade you need to buy the calipers, pads, and rotors for a 1988 and up 9000 Turbo or 1990 and up 9000 Non-turbo.
This is all you need. The total cost is about $400 which includes new calipers!

There are 2 things you must do to fit these calipers on the car.

The twisted metal brake lines need to be swapped from side to side in order for them to fit in the brackets and line up with brake lines.

I chose to buy EBC Greenstuff pads and EBC brakes. There are many different opinions about EBC, so choose whatever you wish.
I only bought the EBC rotors, as I knew they will work with the pads. Some people have complained of the pads eating rotors. I believe these people were using cheap rotors, because mine are fine after 150 miles of track time!

When you bolt up the caliper to the spindle, you need to make sure that the caliper mounting bolts have a washer. Since the 9000 rotor is 2mm thicker, the bolt will rub the rotor without the washer.
Ask me how I know!

Here are some pics of the brake line mount and cut back shield.
