Invitation to Meeting
First Quarter 1996 Meeting -- Lair No. 2
The first meeting of Lair No. 2 was held at the Charcoal Steak House on January 6, 1996. A contingent of Pittsburgh Rascals drove to Roanoke, Virginia on that Saturday to help launch the second Lair of the RR&R. Making the trip were Don Kellander, Jeff Campbell, Jeff Sivek, Jake Horner, David Dunn, and Dan Morrison. As luck would have it, a rare blizzard hit Virginia as we were crossing the mountains from the west. The snow shut down the city -- luckily the restaurant didn't close, but only four prospective Roanoke Rascals were able to come out. They were, Carl Plantinga, Peter Fosl, Benedict Goodfriend, and Sanford Gurian. Dan Morrison made a presentation on Orelie-Antoine de Tounens and the Kingdom of Araucania and Patagonia. Everyone sang "My Last Cigar" and lit up. The Lair was properly chartered and the Roanoke crowd went home. The Pittsburgh crowd, however, returned to their hotel and found themselves snowed in. They made the best of the fiasco by spending time in the heated pool at the hotel.

The snow began even as the Pittsburgh Rascals invaded Virginia.
Carl Planting, left, and Dan Morrison, talk about the glories of Rascaldom. Philosopher Peter Fosl, right, gazes at his navel.
Jeff Campbell, with pants wet from wading in the snow to dig out his car, was one of the Pittsburgh Rascals stranded for the duration of the blizzard.
