First Quarter 1994 Meeting -- Lair No. 1

On March 5, 1994, the RR&R met at Tramp's Grand Olde Saloon to mark the anniversary of the exit from Haiti of Jean-Claude [Baby Doc] Duvalier. a Presentation was made by Reg Litz which consisted in a five minute historical overview, a 10 minute video clip from a recent "Frontline" television program on Haiti followed by 30 minutes of slides Reg took during his visit to Haiti in 1984.

Two songs were sung on this occasion. Following the video portion of Reg's presentation the Rascal Quintet [Brice, Campbell, Morrison, Scheer, Tate] sang the Haitian national anthem, which the whole group then sang again after Reg's presentation. We also sang "My Last Cigar" as s a group over coffee, desert and cigars.

Bill Bollendorf, the owner of the Macondo Gallery, hung a number of his Haitian paintings around the rooms and had a few words to say following Reg's presentation regarding the art and an upcoming benefit auction of Haitian art which he is helping to coordinate at the PPG Wintergarden.

Prior to the meeting, the members met and signed the charter, bringing the RR&R into existence in a formal way. Signing the charter were: Dennis Looney, Jack Brice, Jon Landgraf, Lee Wolfson, Dan Morrison, Greg Bruns, Karl Williams, Jeff Sivek, Greg Scheer, Rob Viner and Reg Litz. Mark Miller mistakenly signed the charter as it passed his place, though he was not a member at the time and was simply sitting in the meeting with his friend Lee Wolfson. Dan Morrison was elected for a one year term as Secretary. Discussed were the need for members to take on Rascal Challenges, the future direction of the RR&R and finances. Dennis Looney volunteered to do a challenge 6 months hence and Greg Scheer tentatively agreed to do one 3 months hence.

After this short business meeting, the Rascal Quintet had a hasty final rehearsal in the downstairs hallway, next to the men's room. And then it was back upstairs to the bar ear to mingle with the group.
