Fourth Quarter 2007 Meeting -- Lair No. 1

Based on emails, we can infer the following account of this meeting is mostly true. It seems Lair No. 1 met on December 1, 2007 for its Mass Challenge, which was to produce a Rascal currency. Timons Esaias won the competition, for his second time. Following is an account by Charles George, reproduced here verbatim. Take it for what it's worth:

"What Tim is really saying is that, by a wide margin, he was declared this year's Lair 1 Mass Challenge Champion. He was not dissuaded by Paul Smiley-Oyen's presentation, in absentia, of an imported cigar and sultry instructions for its use, nor my pathetic attempt to promote the gilded overhand knot, or even William's suggestion that we return to salt. He out-punned us all by insisting that we avoid ever minting our fundamental unit, the scruple, because "Rascals should be without scruples", and instead proposed denominations of gullibles, roue', marks , Evas, and dannies [capitalization sic]. ( F.Y.I. an Eva is worth half-a-dozen dannies.) This being Tim's second victory, we will silver-plate his current JZL medal. In second place was Bob Edmunds, who suggested a currency of beer labels, from any bottle caps (~25 cents) to Franzinskaner labels (~$100). While he nurses his wounds and awaits delivery of the Elvis booger and other totems of "the bearer of the bitter cup", we can count on Tim keeping his cup full of whatever may be behind Bob's favorite label. Also thanks to Ron for his proposals of gold notes and Woody for a celebration of historic con-men. Finally, thanks to our guests, Tony and Greg, in whom we entrusted ballot collecting and counting. Finally, congratulations to Dennis for being elected to assistant director; Mark Miller, treasurer; Woody Cunningham, secretary (with me as his ghost-writer); Ron DiOrio, archivist; Lee Wolfson, keeper of the humidor; and William Cipkala who now ascends to director once again (this time to try and avoid doing all the work). Also, as a get-well gift, we created the post of Compliance Officer for Ed Krivoniac. Other meeting details will be in our minutes shortly, Charlei"
